The Center for Web Intelligence in the School of Computing is co-directed by Dr. Bamshad Mobasher, Dr. Robin Burke, and Dr. Jonathan Gemmell. The focus of the Center for Web Intelligence is the development of intelligent techniques and applications for the World Wide Web, including automatic web personalization, recommender systems, e-business intelligence, web usage and content mining, and intelligent web agents for information filtering.
The goal of the Center is to conduct and promote research in these areas, as well as to provide a central resource and repository for researchers and practitioners. The Center also aims to generate interaction with industry and peer groups through workshops, joint projects, and technology transfer.
The scientific work produced by the faculty and students in the Center has been cited well over 30,000 times. The faculty involved with the Center are well-known internationally for their work and are in leadership positions on several highly ranked conferences including the ACM Conference on Recommender Systems and the ACM Conference on User Modeling, Adaptation, and Personalization.
The amount of data that organizations must store, process, organize, and analyze is growing rapidly. This requires increasingly larger clusters and data centers, as well as increasingly complex software infrastructure to orchestrate the necessary computations. And yet, users demand interactive operations and in-depth analysis, a challenge that can be met by suitable data optimizations and management systems.
The Data Systems and Optimization Laboratory at the School of Computing at DePaul University aims to enable the users with insights, analysis and interactive operations by embracing new frontiers at the interface of data management, information science, forensics, and computer engineering. It provides tools and systems capable of providing insights into complex problems with the efficient use and collection of data and computing resources.
The Laboratory for Interactive Human-Computer Analytics (LIHCA) is focused on systems that leverage the combined power of humans' intuition and insight (via visualization) and computers' number-crunching and speed (via machine learning) to solve problems with data. We develop tools and application systems with expert collaborators in a variety of domains.
The Visual Informatics and Data Analytics [ VIDA ] Group at DePaul University focuses on creating data mining and computer vision algorithms and developing systems for data processing, analysis, modeling, and visualization. Two laboratories, the Medical informatics (MedIX) lab and the Intelligent Multimedia Processing (IMP) lab, house state-of-the-art research that combines theory and experimental methodologies to provide novel solutions to challenging data problems. The research conducted in the labs is applied to various domains including medical imaging, neuroscience, cellular biology, psychology, security and urban studies.
